Abstract
Considering the role of space as a manifestation of lifestyle and the principle of contentment holds an important place in Muslim life, and paying attention to it has numerous effects on the dimensions of social sustainability. The present study, referring to the Iranian-Islamic concept of "contentment", examined the architectural works of Isfahan and, by extracting examples of the verb "contentment" in realizing a contented life, introduced effective solutions for optimization in the process of creating space. Accordingly, in the first step, brainstorming sessions were held in groups of two or more to identify examples of optimization in architectural works. In the second step, these examples were categorized into effective solutions and basic strategies based on existing similarities and to facilitate their study, using MaxQDA software. As a result, 11 design policies were introduced to realize a satisfying life in the architectural and urban space in the form of 5 strategies: "thriftiness", "multipurpose", "nature-friendliness", "self-reliance" and "recyclability". In the next step, the extracted solutions were weighted based on the opinions of 30 architecture and urban planning experts active in the Isfahan construction industry, using a pairwise comparison method under each strategy. Accordingly, the solutions of "completing the work over time and in accordance with the residents' budget", "using controllable openings", "preferring the use of natural light and ventilation", "using the capacitive ability of materials in energy storage" and "building reparability" under each of the five strategies of this study gained the highest weight among the experts' opinions.
